This is not a statement
My name is Andreas Koumis and I am a digital media artist. I graduated from the University of Brighton with a BA (Hons) in Digital Media with First Class Honors and an MA in Fine Art with Distinction. I reside in Cyprus where I create art, earn a living as a digital media designer and play music to keep the Muse satisfied.

My work feeds from and plays with notions of Lacanian psychoanalysis with particular emphasis on the big Other and language.
The medium and process is essential. I create sound compositions, using both analogue and digital elements, based on conversations. Each sound element is then placed to affect a virtual object using computer software. Manifesting these ideas digitally is important: For as language attempts to represent the Real, so has the virtual world undertaken to copy reality into the myriad of programming languages, metalanguages, zeros and ones.
The intention is to create work that speaks of nothing yet remains open to interpretation – “a foreign language within language”. Distance is important. Stripped from any attached meaning, the final outsome is always unresolved, undetermined. Rather than signifying answers the works act as question engines.
